• Himachal government decided to start planting sea buckthorn in the cold desert areas of the state. This is a shrub that produces orange-yellow edible berries. In India, it is usually found above the tree line in the Himalayas in arid areas such as the cold deserts of Ladakh and Spiti. In Himachal Pradesh, it is called chharma locally and grows in the wild in parts of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti.

• March 16th is celebrated as National Vaccination Day. National Vaccination Day is also called as National Immunization Day. A celebration is held on March 16th every year to convey the importance of vaccination to the entire country. This date was first observed in 1995 (the year that India launched the “Pulse Polio” program). The theme of 2021 is both the eradication of polio and the current threat of COVID-19.

• Katakali actor Guru Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair died in Kozhikode, Kerala at the age of 105. He played an important role in making Indian classical dance popular in Kerala. Guru Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair was born on June 16, 1916. He studied at Kalladikkodan School in Kathakali, specializing in the “Kalladikodan” style. Kalladikodan Shailee was created by Chathu Panicker Aasaan and it is one of the 3 main styles of Katakali.

• The number of birds that died due to collisions with power lines has increased over time, and the Supreme Court of India made recommendations on behalf of the endangered Great Indian mixed breed. These power lines pass through the diminishing natural habitats of Indian Ocean leopards in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
