It's been a year since the nationwide lockdown was imposed and the pandemic disrupted the employment discourse all through 2020. However, some upticks across various sectors have given us a path towards recovery.

Cities See Growth In Hiring After Covid

A report of the Employment index from a renowned employment website has shown a 6% growth in job posting activity in the month of February. Although there is a significant decrease of 15% in comparison to a year-over-year basis, it indicates that the job market is not completely in the doldrums. The cities like Ahmedabad have shown a 17% increase, while Bengaluru showed an overall 10% growth compared to January 2021.

Hiring demand in IT- Hardware and Software sectors in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai are on the rise with the growth of 15%, 14%, and 11% respectively.

According to Rituparna Chakraborty, Co-founder and EVP of Teamlease Services, it is no surprise that the IT sector is on the rise. The IT industry has been benefited from the pandemic.

"The moment companies understood that the location is no longer a barrier, they begin to benefit. There is tremendous cross-pollination happening, but the clustering of such jobs towards the southern states is constant. Nowadays there is a demand for niche jobs like data analysis, Artificial Intelligence in the IT sector. This demand is not only showed by the West but also from our domestic sector," said Chakraborty.

The report also shows that the hiring momentum spans across various experience levels. Freshers with experience of 0 to 3 years have seen a 6% growth, while those with 7 to 10 years or middle management experience have seen a 9% uptick. Indeed, a year-over-year comparison of people postings with more than 15 years of experience has grown by 19%.

The IT and Telecom industries along with Agro-based industries, media and entertainment are continuing to do well, while industries like Travel and tourism are still facing challenges," said the CEO of the employment website.

"However, since the outbreak of the pandemic, some improvements have been seen. As India is ready for work again with the Covid vaccine roll-out, there is hope for improvements and new opportunities in the coming months," said the CEO.
